Approximate only. Weights are calculated at 2,300 kg/m³; sandstone ranges from about 2,200 to 2,400 kg/m³, so real blocks can be roughly 4% lighter or heavier, and wet stone weighs a little more. Figures ignore mortar joints and do not include capping. Check the actual pallet weight with us before collecting with a trailer, and always stay within your vehicle and trailer ratings. How the calculation works
- Courses = wall height ÷ block height, rounded up to a whole course. Lineal metres of block = wall length × courses.
- Blocks are random length, so the block count assumes an average length (400mm or 600mm) and is a guide only.
- Weight = lineal metres × bedwidth × block height × 2,300 kg/m³. That works out at about 253kg per m² of 110mm wall face, or 299kg per m² at 130mm bed.
- Figures ignore mortar joints, which reduce the block count slightly; dry-laid walls use the full figure.
- Rough squared blocks come 4 layers to a pallet, covering 4m² of wall face. Every 100mm of block depth adds about 230kg per m² of wall face.
The figures come from our sandstone block sizes and weights guide, which explains them in more detail.
