Approximate only. Extra for cuts follows the pattern; irregular or angled edges, curves and lots of obstacles need more. Mix pavers from several pallets so the colours blend. Weight is calculated at about 2,300 kg/m³ of sandstone, and base tonnes at about 1.8–2.0 t per compacted m³. We can confirm pallet quantities from your square metres in your quote.

How the calculation works

  • Area to order = paved area × (1 + extra for cuts). Allow about 5% for stack bond and 5–7% for stretcher bond, 5–10% for French pattern, random ashlar and linear plank, and 10–15% for herringbone, diagonal and crazy paving.
  • Weight = area × paver thickness × 2,300 kg/m³. 50mm sandstone pavers weigh roughly 115kg per m².
  • Handsplit flagging is supplied in 10m² pallets, so the pallet count is rounded up to whole pallets.
  • Base tonnes use the crushed sandstone figure of about 1.8–2.0 tonnes per compacted cubic metre over the paved area.

The figures come from our how to lay sandstone pavers guide, which explains them in more detail.
