Accent lighting

Solar spotlights

Warm white solar spotlights for the features worth highlighting: a tree, a shrub bed or a textured sandstone wall. 52 LEDs each, three lighting modes, IP65, and no cable to run.

What spotlights are for

A spotlight does one job: it picks something out. A tree trunk lit from below, a clump of grasses, a statue, a rock-faced wall with the light skimming across its surface. Done well, one or two spotlights give a garden depth that a dozen path lights cannot, because they create light and shade rather than an even glow.

Our spotlights are warm white with 52 LEDs each and three lighting modes, and they are rated IP65 for outdoor use. They are solar-powered, so there is no transformer, cable or trench. The supplier does not publish a lumen figure, so we do not quote one: treat them as accent lights, not floodlights.

Uplighting trees and walls

For a tree, place the light about a metre from the trunk and aim it up into the canopy. For a wall, place it low and close, a few hundred millimetres out, so the beam grazes the surface and throws the texture of the stone into relief. Pointing a spotlight straight at a flat wall from a distance just flattens it.

Rock-faced and split-face sandstone blocks and sandstone boulders show grazing light best. Keep the solar panel in an open, sunny spot, even if that means placing it a little away from the light, and keep it clear of foliage.

How many do I need?

Less than you think. One or two spotlights per feature is usually enough, and a whole garden often needs only four to six accents alongside wall or path lights for the general glow. That is why our spotlights come as a 2-pack, and why they appear in the Sandstone Wall Kit and Entry & Garden Kit alongside wall and path lights rather than on their own in bulk.

Common questions

Are solar spotlights bright enough to uplight a tree?+

For a small to medium tree or shrub, a warm white solar spotlight gives a useful accent glow, but it will not match a mains-powered fitting. The supplier publishes no lumen figure, so we recommend treating these as accent lights.

Where should I put the solar panel?+

In the sunniest open position you can find, clear of foliage and shadows. Panel position matters more than the position of the light head for how long the light runs at night.

How do I light a sandstone wall?+

Place the spotlight low and close, a few hundred millimetres out from the wall, and aim it along the surface so the beam grazes the stone. This brings out the texture of rock-faced and split-face finishes.

How long does delivery take?+

Typically 5 to 12 business days within Australia, free of charge. Kits with several product types can arrive in more than one parcel.
